(9/19/2014) -- With some cool fall temperatures in the air, the University of Detroit Mercy women's cross country team was in prime form as the Titans had five runners go under 20 minutes at the 35th Annual National Catholic Championships, held on Friday at Notre Dame. Vikings Have Excellent Showing At Friendship Invite, Place 2nd Overall -- Results CEDARVILLE, Ohio – For the first time under head coach Joe Jaketic the Cleveland State cross country team had five runners post sub 20-minute 5Ks - and recorded an all-time low team average - en route to a second place finish at the Friendship Invitational. "We did very, very well today, I am so proud of everyone's performances and our collective team effort," head coach Joe Jaketic said. "They had a tough week of workouts, and they have been responding well to those workouts and their hard work is definitely showing on the course. We had a nice group of runners at the top of the pack today, and we were able to come away with two top-10 finishes which is awesome." Read more Cross Country Competes at Friendship Invitational -- Results The Wright State cross country teams competed in the annual Friendship Invitational hosted by Cedarville University Saturday at the Elvin R. King Course. Junior Kameron Powell led the Raider men's team with a time of 27:15 in the 8K race while fellow junior Vanessa Hopwood led the Raider women with a time of 19:26 in the 5K race. WSU men placed fifth as the women finished fourth. Read more Penguin Cross Country Squads Place in Top 10 at Iona Meet of Champions -- Results Bronx, N.Y. - The Youngstown State men's and women's cross country teams each placed in the top 10 at the 20th Annual Br. John "Paddy" Doyle/Iona College Meet of Champions on Saturday morning held at Van Cortlandt Park. Both squads had their best-ever finishes in the meet as the men placeed ninth out of 23 teams while the women were 10th out of 20 squads. The men finished ahead of Kent State and a strong Iona squad which was ranked 12th in the nation. The women placed ahead of St. John's, Hofstra, Iona and Central Connecticut State. Read more Crusaders Compete Internationally in Western Invitational The Valparaiso men’s and women’s cross country teams were international travelers this weekend as they traveled to London, Ontario, Canada for the Western Invitational at Thames Valley Golf Course. Senior Jessica Richardson (Columbus, Ind./North) paced the Crusader women with a 17:59 to finish third in the 5K. Sophomore Liz Bloy (Freedom, Wis./Freedom) finished in 21st place with a 19:12.
