Youngstown State's McLean and Klim Collect Runner of the Week HonorsPublished by
INDIANAPOLIS -- Youngstown State junior Austin McLean (West Jefferson, Ohio) is the Horizon League Men’s Runner of the Week, while Youngstown State sophomore Michelle Klim (Poland, Ohio) is the Horizon League Women’s Runner of the Week for the week of Oct. 6-12. McLean collects the award for the third time this season. The Youngstown State men’s and women’s cross country teams traveled Orlando, Fla. to compete in the Disney Cross Country Classic. The men’s squad finished third out of 21 teams, collecting 68 points to finish behind Malone and Florida. The Penguins had runners place first, 13th, 17th, 18th, 19th, 20th, 24th and 32nd in the competition. The women’s team also took third place against a field of 29 teams. They finished with 69 points total and were behind winner Malone and second-place Florida Atlantic. McLean collected his second-straight victory for the Penguins, winning the 8K race in a time of 24:42.82. The junior won the race by 25 seconds against a field of 177 fellow runners. His finish was a course and meet record as he became the second-straight Youngstown State male runner to win the Disney title. Klim placed second at the event versus a field of 250 runners, just seven seconds behind the race winner from Malone. The sophomore ran the 5K course in a time of 17:51.22 to lead all Youngstown State runners. The Penguins are back in action on October 18th as both teams compete at the Pre-National meet in Terre Haute, Ind.
