INDIANAPOLIS – Oakland sophomore Bryce Stroede (Horton, Mich.) and Youngstown State junior Nina Grambling (Canton, Ohio) have been named Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Runners of the Week while Youngstown State sophomore Arnaldo Morales (Struthers, Ohio) and fellow sophomore Penguin Jaynee Corbett (Corry, Pa.) have been named Horizon League Men’s and Women’s Athletes of the Week for the period of Dec. 2-8. Stroede, the 2014 Horizon League Indoor Track & Field Champion in the one-mile, placed first in the 3,000-meter run at the IPFW Mastodon Opener. His time of 8:18.82 (8:13.09 converted) set a new Oakland school record. Grambling picked up where she left off at the 2014 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Championship where she registered three first-place finishes. At the YSU Icebreaker, Grambling was the only runner to win two events. Her time of 7.58 seconds in the 60-meter dash toppled a field of 32 competitors. In the 200-meter dash, it was much of the same as the junior’s time of 24.65 seconds took first by .66 seconds. The 2014 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year took home a tie for first and two fifth-place finishes at the YSU Icebreaker. Starting in the high jump, Morales registered a mark of 2.03 meters, good for a tie for first-place. In the long jump and triple jump the sophomore registered marks of 6.48 meters and 13.65 meters, respectively. Corbett, who was named the 2014 Horizon League Outdoor Track & Field Freshman of the Year, started the year with a bang at the YSU Icebreaker via first-place marks in both the weight throw (16.12 meters) and shot put (14.06 meters). The Penguins return to action Jan. 23 at the WATTS Center for the YSU College Invitational. Oakland will travel to Ypsilanti, Mich. for the EMU Triangular on Jan. 9.
