Butler's Callum Hawkins Wins Regional TitlePublished by
INDIANAPOLIS -- Butler sophomore Callum Hawkins punched his ticket to the NCAA cross country national meet with a championship performance at the 2011 Great Lakes Region meet in Toledo, Ohio, on Saturday, Nov. 12. The talented second-year runner captured the men's individual title in the regional meet.
Hawkins paced a field of more than 200 runners, winning the 10K race at Ottawa Park Golf Course in 30:01.5. He finished more than seven seconds ahead of runner up Eric Finan of Cincinnati.
Teammate Ross Clarke put himself solidly in position for an at-large bid to the national meet by placing 13th overall in a time of 30:36.5. The two Butler runners helped the Bulldogs finish sixth in the team competition, setting up a possible team at-large bid. Butler entered the meet ranked seventh in the region.
